About Aurora Currumbin Clinic
Set in the southern part of the Gold Coast, near Currumbin Beach and the New South Wales border, Aurora Currumbin Clinic is accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards to treat adults for mental health and substance use disorders with detox, residential treatment, and day treatment. Their private 104-bed facility admits clients using referrals from their GP or treating doctor to a psychiatrist at Aurora. Conditions they treat include ADHD, anger, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, OCD, personality disorders, PTSD, stress, self-harm, alcohol and drug addiction, and co-occurring disorders.
They welcome and encourage visitors. Visitors can park in the front hospital car park. Clients leaving an inpatient stay cannot drive off the facility, so Aurora Currumbin Clinic recommends having a caretaker drop off and pick up the client. During the admission process, they ask caretakers to drop off the client at the door and then return during visiting hours.
Amenities
Aurora Currumbin Clinic offers free WiFi, a bedside phone, a TV with Foxtel, and snacks. Clients can have their own room or share a room. In the case of veterans and war widows, they are admitted to shared rooms when using the Department of Veterans' Affairs' coverage, except when their condition requires an individual room. Aurora Currumbin Clinic has a free laundry service.
They have an on-site gym with an exercise physiologist. Additionally, they allow clients to walk around the premises if their psychiatrist approves.
Programs
Aurora Currumbin Clinic's specialized treatment programs include Project Art, a men's self-development program, exercise programming, mindful self development, therapy that considers aging-related concerns like Alzheimer's and dementia, special care for veterans and widows of veterans, strength and resilience training, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
TMS treatment lasts for about 4 weeks with 20-30 treatments. To track the progress of TMS, Aurora administers questionnaires to clients on their mental state at the beginning of treatment, after 2 weeks of treatment, after all 4 weeks of treatment, and 2 weeks after treatment was completed.
Their treatment for substance use disorders is abstinence-based.
Although Aurora Currumbin Clinic isn't a religious facility, they can incorporate religious care by clergy upon request.
