In addition, Discovery Ranch serves as a nationally accredited academic program. The master’s and doctoral level clinicians treat a variety of behavioral and emotional disorders including anxiety, depression, trauma, social struggles, mood disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD) and more. They use their signature CARE model which addresses clinical, academic, relational and experiential needs. The experiential aspects of treatment at Discovery Ranch include equine therapy, calf adoption, recreation therapy, music and performance therapy, sand tray therapy and a peer leadership program. Families are encouraged to rebuild their relationships by attending weekly family therapy, family visits and Parent Day activities. To teach responsibility and accountability, the boys are required to participate in daily chores and day-to-day workings of ranch life. They also take part in physical fitness activities, eat nutritious meals, receive psychiatric evaluations and medication management and participate in community service.

Loved One of a Former Client

Our son age 17 died at discovery ranch this year. DHHS cited them for neglect in our son’s death. He was suicidal and they did not report his ideations to anyone including his family or seek higher supervision or intervention. He was physically restrained there and not given basic things such as books, visits with his family and more. This is not a safe program for teens.

Loved One of a Former Client

My experience is that after I complained to the leadership about significant concerns of my son's therapist at Discovery Ranch, leadership defended and protected the therapist. Therefore, my complaints were elevated to government authorities. Law enforcement conducted an investigation and arrested my son's therapist for abuse to my son. This arrest is public information.
