ERC Northbrook’s residential program lights the path to recovery from eating disorders for medically stable adults, adolescents (ages 13 to 17), and children (ages 8 to 12) of all genders. Patients receive 24-hour support—including continued observation and daytime medical and psychiatric supervision—from a team of experts who specialize in eating disorders and other co-occurring mental health conditions. Through personalized plans that include therapy, education, medical support, and family involvement, ERC helps patients achieve optimal physical and mental health.

Thrive with a Comprehensive, Personalized Approach

Patients at ERC engage in evidence-based therapies and develop recovery skills for real-world situations. Individual, group, and family therapy sessions give patients the chance to explore what matters most to them, build coping skills, and gain insight from peers who share their struggles. Registered dietitians provide supportive, structured meal planning that emphasizes balance, variety, and flexibility.

Feel Comfortable in Healing Surroundings

Located in a family-friendly community, ERC’s residential facility is a safe, nurturing environment. Patients stay in cozy bedrooms, and the child and adolescent units are designed with youth in mind. A state-of-the-art teaching kitchen provides hands-on experience with meal planning and emotional regulation, and an inviting café allows patients to practice mindful eating during mealtimes. They also have access to nearby apartments for those traveling out of state and in need of accommodations.

Continue Outpatient Care Just Steps Away

With day treatment and intensive outpatient programs also on site, ERC Northbrook’s step-down model of care provides convenient support at every phase of recovery. Their day programs run 5–7 days a week and give time to practice skills in real life. For added flexibility, intensive outpatient (IOP) care is offered three times a week, allowing patients to continue school, work, or family life while receiving therapy, nutritional counseling, and supported meals.

Find Hope as a Family
Find Hope as a Family
ERC helps family members and friends navigate their loved one’s recovery process starting with a hope-filled orientation via Zoom, with additional educational opportunities available weekly online. Family therapy sessions focus on education and skill-building, as participants learn advanced caregiver skills and become effective collaborators with their loved one’s therapist.
Maintain Academics While in Treatment
Maintain Academics While in Treatment
At ERC, patients do not have to choose between staying in school or getting care for an eating disorder. The program prioritizes time for academics as part of treatment, with education specialists who coordinate with schools, reduce anxiety around missed work, and provide individualized support so patients can focus on recovery while continuing their education.
Take the Stress Out of Travel & Housing
Take the Stress Out of Travel & Housing
Families often travel from Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and throughout the Midwest for ERC’s specialized care. Their team eliminates unnecessary stress for patients and their families by answering any questions related to transportation, accommodations, and local resources. ERC Northbrook offers dedicated apartment housing for families seeking short-term housing nearby.
Stay Supported 7 Days a Week
Stay Supported 7 Days a Week
Since eating disorders don’t take the weekend off, ERC doesn’t either. Research shows that patients in typical weekday-only programs struggle with eating disorder behaviors over the weekend. That's why ERC provides programming 7 days a week for patients in residential and day treatment levels of care, because it offers the best chance of recovery.
Care Options

Levels of Care

Eating disorders interfere with healthy eating habits, potentially causing weight changes, poor mental health, and physical harm. Treatment addresses underlying thoughts and beliefs, aiming to heal relationships with food. Weight restoration and other medical interventions stabilize physical health.
Residential
Residential eating disorder treatment provides intensive medical and therapeutic care in a safe, structured setting with 24/7 monitoring, meal-time support, therapy, and services for weight restoration as needed.
Day Treatment
In a PHP, patients live at home but follow an intensive schedule of treatment. Most programs require you to be on-site for about 40 hours per week.
Intensive Outpatient Program
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) falls between inpatient care and traditional outpatient services, with therapy and skills-building activities designed to support recovery and provide flexibility. IOP is ideal for those needing support but not the 24/7 care of a residential facility.
Outpatient
Outpatient treatment offers flexible therapeutic and medical care without the need to stay overnight in a hospital or inpatient facility. Outpatient care typically offers a range of therapies and medical interventions individuals can attend alongside daily life.
Virtual & In-Home Care
The delivery of therapeutic services utilizing technology such as video conferencing, online messaging or phone calls, allowing for flexibility, comfort and increased access to care.
Co-Occurring Disorders
Conditions like depression, substance use, and trauma can co-occur with eating disorders. Many programs provide co-occurring eating disorder treatment for comprehensive healing.
