Depression
At the age of 42, I found myself in a very dark place…… I was incredibly depressed, in an abusive relationship and was numbing myself with alcohol and valium on a daily basis. I knew that I desperately needed help. Due to the deeply personal nature of my situation, I was too ashamed to discuss my relationship issues in group therapy. I didn’t want to be in a ‘therapeutic community’ of strangers. I was carrying trauma and found trusting people really difficult. After researching many different rehabs, I came across and Freedom and what I read sounded like the best fit for me. I felt safe with the idea of one to one therapy, and a program that would be catered to me and the areas I was struggling in. I liked that I would not be forced into a 12 step program, but instead would be helped to navigate my trauma in a safe, private space and get my life back to the happy, healthy life it had once been. I found my sessions at Freedom incredibly helpful and insightful - I trusted my therapist and was completely honest for the first time. Freedom also helped me get out of my comfort zone and to have the confidence to break my previous pattern of social isolation. I played padel for the first time, got back to the gym, resumed yoga, and even did some Balinese cooking classes. My 6 week program helped me to rediscover myself, regain my own power through healthy habits and break the toxic cycle that had been my life for the past 14 months.

Before going, I was worried I would find it difficult as the only client, but that wasn't the case at all. The program was intensive and kept me so busy I didn't have time to be lonely! They delivered exactly what was promised and more. I could tell that Ned and his team were genuinely concerned about my recovery and went to great lengths to help at all times. I really couldn't recommend them more highly. The detox was professionally managed, the therapists were excellent (I'm still seeing one of them now) and I loved that I could choose the other therapeutic activities. I went there in pieces, beaten by my addiction and left a new man with real hope for my future.

I needed to recover from alcohol and cannabis addiction. The non group approach meant the program was tailored to me, therapy sessions and physical health support. The whole experience was professional, the environment was calm and I always felt safe and respected. I managed a 95% reset during my time there. So far I'm clean, partly as the aftercare planning was thorough, which made being back in my addiction environment not as awful as I had expected. 4 months later, I look back and it's very clear that it was a good decision to go.
