Virtual & In-Home Care
The delivery of therapeutic services utilizing technology such as video conferencing, online messaging or phone calls, allowing for flexibility, comfort and increased access to care.
Co-Occurring Mental Health

Review from Rehabs.com

While Hazelden has a beautiful campus, their treatment methodologies and counselors are archaic at best, destructive at worst. Many employees are members of the 12 Step community and firmly believe that finding a higher power is the ONLY way to one can stay sober. They do not address underlying issues, and counselors are likely to dismiss underlying causes of a dependence on mood altering substances, as in their 12 Step view the underlying cause can only be one thing: A lack of conscious contact with a higher power. Stay away from this place if you have a desire to dig into the reasons why you drink and use drugs, and heal from those old wounds.

Review from Rehabs.com

Hazelden Betty Ford Center City, Minnesota: If you do not subscribe to the dogma of AA and surrender your life to a completely fabricated “higher power,” then this is not the facility for you to achieve sobriety. The 12 steps are beaten down your throat relentlessly. If you don’t agree that this method will work, you’re lead to believe that there’s something constitutionally wrong with you. It’s not the fact that the whole treatment process is based on ideas that were made up by two average guys in the 1930’s, before effective psychiatric drugs and other treatment methods were created. No, the problem is you! For $40k a month, I had no idea that Hazelden put so much stock in the archaic and abysmally unsuccessful 12-step program. I would have never gone there had I known this prior to my stay. Save money and pay a real licensed psychologist or psychiatrist to work on what’s really wrong in your life. I had to practically beg to get to see the psychiatrist and to get on some anti-anxiety meds. Also, for $40k/month I should have the option of whether I want to have a roommate or not. This was not included in the brochure, as they say. You’re essentially treated like a child while there as well and forced to complete a daily rehabilitative duty, which is essentially doing the cleaning staff’s job for them. Ridiculous at this cost, and it does nothing as far as contributing to your treatment. You’re also not supposed to fraternize with any of the other guys who are not in your assigned unit, which is completely ludicrous. Group therapy sessions are hijacked by one or two of the more vocal participants, while the rest of the folks are making eye contact and rolling their eyes, hoping the moderator will chime in and take control back. The bright spots were the grounds, the workout facility, and the food. All in all, however, I would not recommend this place, if you’re really serious about sobriety. Get a personal therapist and try something like Smart Recovery. You’re not powerless.

Review from Rehabs.com

My 21 year old daughter spent 60 days at Hazelden in late 2018. She was/is a heroin addict, and had been in six, 30-day rehab programs and lived at 3 different sober living facilities before Hazelden. We were out of ideas, and my daughter was literally about to die, when I found Hazelden's website while desperately searching the internet from my home in AZ. Literally less than 24 hours later, my daughter was on a plane to MN. The facility picked her up at the airport, and she spend 60 days there before moving to sober living (where she still lives). She is approaching a year of sobriety, which is a miracle. A few thoughts. First, it's hard to say whether Hazelden offers better treatment than other facilities, but 1) the interaction between mental health issues and addiction is a big part of the program, and in my daughter's case, a critical part of the process, 2) my daughter spent 60 days there, which is twice as long as she spent in prior treatment centers. In retrospect, the 30-day programs were way too short and had no chance of success,, and 3) the parental program Hazelden offers is extremely valuable. I wasn't expecting much, but the 4 or 5 days I spent at the facility changed my perspective, which in turn improved my relationship with my daughter and my ability to establish boundaries for myself. I thought I understood, and could "manage", her addition. I was wrong. My daughter obviously isn't out of the woods--she'll always be an addict and have to live her life accordingly--but the past 10 months have been the most peaceful and best 10 months of the last 5 years. I feel I have my daughter back. Maybe it was Hazelden, maybe she was just finally ready, from a maturity standpoint, to change her life, or maybe it was moving her out of AZ, and away from her addict friends and dealers. It was probably all three, but the proof is in the pudding: Hazelden succeeded where other treatment centers failed, and in an environment where parents are desperate, and at great risk of being taken advantage of by facilities claiming to be better and different, perhaps hearing from a parent who ran the gamut, and saw success at Hazelden he didn't see anywhere else, will help you.

This was my son's tenth or eleventh treatment and his fourth time at a Hazelden facility.Center City is literally a "slice of heaven." In every way the facility exudes peace and serenity; from the setting, to the carefully crafted buildings, to the enlightened folks who work at Hazelden-Center City. My only criticism is that maybe the patient has too much free time. For some this is fine, for others like my son idle time can get him into trouble. I'm not certain this is a weakness..
