Nestled on a sprawling 174-acre campus in DeKalb County, Georgia Regional Hospital at Atlanta (GRHA) is a state-operated mental health facility offering psychiatric stabilization, forensic psychiatric care, and skilled nursing for adults with developmental disabilities. With over 300 licensed inpatient beds, the hospital plays a vital role in Georgia’s behavioral health system, welcoming individuals regardless of their ability to pay and supporting safe, community reintegration through coordinated, recovery-focused care.

Grow Through Guided Therapy

Treatment at GRHA is guided by person-centered values and a multidisciplinary team. Clients receive structured support through evidence-based therapies, including medication management, psychosocial rehabilitation, group and individual counseling, and recreational programming. Temporary observation services provide immediate crisis care, while specialized forensic units help individuals restore competency or prepare for conditional release. Language and sensory support services ensure accessible care for all clients, and recovery planning teams work closely with community providers to build a strong continuum of care.

Stay Supported, Live With Dignity

Clients reside in age- and need-specific units with secure, structured settings designed to promote safety, stability, and healing. On-site rehabilitation malls and a recreational center provide daily enrichment, while additional amenities like dental care and visitation hours support both physical health and family connection. GRHA’s mission of dignity, safety, and recovery is reinforced by its Human Rights & Ethics Committee, ensuring that each person’s voice is respected and their rights protected during their stay.
