Narconon was founded on the Scientology principles of L. Ron Hubbard, and believes that addiction is neither inherited nor an incurable disease. The program begins with a drug-free, non-medical withdrawal process designed to assist the client to come off drugs as rapidly and comfortably as possible. In cases where a physician deems it medically necessary, Narconon will refer individuals to medically supervised withdrawal as a prerequisite to beginning the Narconon programme. Next, Narconon combines exercise and sweating in a dry heat sauna paired with a regimen of hydration and nutrition to help eliminate the residues of drugs from the body. The final component of the program consists of a series of life skills courses. These courses focus on addressing the reasons a person first turned to drugs and instilling life skills an individual needs to succeed. The courses include overcoming ups and downs in life, personal values, and changing conditions in life.

Narconon South Africa is located on over 200 hectares in the North West Province with beautiful views of the savanna. The facility was built on a former game reserve and offers an expansive setting for personalized care with tranquil accommodation spaces. On site, clients can participate in treatment while immersed in the serene environment of the center.
