About Alaska Behavioral Health Anchorage - POWER Center
The POWER Youth Center is a youth drop-in center and clinic run by teens providing a safe, judgment-free space in Anchorage for people ages 13 to 23. Young people can hang out, talk with staff, or relax in a comfortable setting. The center’s main goal is to offer immediate support and a welcoming place for youth to connect with peers and trusted adults. It is a place to receive help without any pressure.
Empowerment for a Brighter Future
Guidance for the future is provided through both professional staff and peer-led initiatives. Youth can work 1-on-1 with case managers to set personal goals and connect with resources for housing and employment. This is complemented by a peer education program where youth are trained as Peer Outreach Workers (POWs). These POWs lead groups on topics like building healthy relationships, stress management, and other essential life skills. This support system empowers youth to make healthy choices and plan for their future.
Food, Fun, and a Fresh Start
The center offers many practical resources to meet daily needs. Youth can access a kitchen to make meals, a food pantry, and a clothing closet. Free laundry machines, showers, and hygiene items are also available. For recreation and connection, the center has computers with internet access, video games, movies, and various art activities.
