We lost one of our sons to suicide, which nearly destroyed his twin brother and our family. The loving and knowledgeable staff took in our shattered son and began the process of helping him want to live again. 30-90 Day Treatment Program
30-90 Day Treatment Program
Paradigm’s 30-90 day residential treatment program provides highly individualized, methodical, and strategic care for every client in their program. They recognize that no two individuals are the same, and as such, the therapeutic modalities they use are dynamic, evidence-based, and diverse. This allows Paradigm to balance the need for tailored treatment while also using proven, results-driven approaches.
Engaging Group Therapy and Family Sessions
Engaging Group Therapy and Family Sessions
Paradigm Treatment places a strong emphasis on the power of community and familial support in the healing process. Their program includes multiple group therapy sessions, where teens can share experiences and build connections with peers facing similar challenges. These sessions foster a sense of belonging and mutual understanding, which are crucial for emotional healing and growth. Additionally, family therapy is a core component of their approach, recognizing the vital role families play in the recovery journey. By involving family members in therapy, Paradigm Treatment helps to rebuild trust, improve communication, and create a supportive home environment.
Combining Academics With Therapeutic Self-Discovery
Combining Academics With Therapeutic Self-Discovery
One of Paradigm’s most successful therapy activities is memoir writing. In this exercise, teens write a narrative account of their life, allowing them to work through past events and set up a future for themselves. Designated school time and a classroom environment keep teens motivated through the academic component of their treatment, setting them up for greater success in and out of school.

- Nice Facility - Therapists were great. - Malibu manager Tim H really bungled my child's expulsion and couldn't have made it more traumatic if he tried. Awful. - If you have to chase a refund, better get ready to hire a lawyer. Super shady.

The people are nice and the accommodations are luxurious, but I hated my stay and left early. Leave if it’s not working for you. Don’t let anyone convince you to stay. I went home and was able to address my trauma my way in private, which worked for me, I wasn’t comfortable nor did I think it was appropriate for my unique situation to do it there. The activities are nice I will say, but again, if it isn’t working and you have a better Plan B, why hesitate, it’s your life.

Review from Rehabs.com

Paradigm Malibu, like all treatment centers, has its ups and downs. I'd like to focus on the positives first. The staff here is beyond exceptional; they truly care for the clients and try their hardest to help. I personally was a client here the staff was the most helpful part of my treatment. I was struggling with depression, anxiety and self-harm, and in my living situation at the time I felt lonely, misunderstood and not supported. The staff here made me feel like I had people that truly cared for me and people that had my best interest at heart for the first time in a long time. I still talk to members of the staff to this day, almost two years later. Also, the nutrition here is beyond exceptional. The chef makes THE BEST meals. They are heavenly and nutritional too. There's pretty much no sugar here except for special occasions, and that's because there are multiple studies linking sugar to depressive-like behavior. The house is beautiful as well and so is the surrounding area. The hikes and going to the beach were my personal favorite activities. However, Paradigm also has its downsides. Because this program is not meant as long-term treatment, getting lasting results from the program is extremely difficult. 30-45 days is not enough to change years of a depressive mindset. I went to this program twice, and the first time I came home feeling ready to take on the world. I felt happy and anxiety-free. Not even one week back, I was cutting myself again. Multiple accidents later, in about 5 months, I ended up back at Paradigm unwillingly due to doctor's orders. This time was a lot harder, because I realized that my time here wouldn't cure my mental issues, and I was less motivated to do the work. However, after 2 and a half months, I was starting to feel better. I wasn't anywhere close to loving myself, but I was starting to accept myself. I ended up going to a therapeutic boarding school for a year afterwards, and boarding school is what really changed me. I am currently going to school, employed, and living with my family happily. Treatment depends on what the adult/teen/child needs, and Paradigm just wasn't enough for the level of mental issues I had. I bet this program has fully treated some people, that just wasn't the place for me. Compared to other forms of treatment, Paradigm is more on the mushy side. The kids aren't necessarily PUSHED to improve, although it is "encouraged". I have had many friends that I went with here fall straight back into their old habits because they didn't take full advantage of their treatment and Paradigm didn't really push them to. Before sending your loved one here, I would recommend evaluating how intense the problem is. If it is severe, I would recommend somewhere like a boarding school or a partial hospitalization program. If it is mediocre, a place like Paradigm could help a lot. A few other notes is that there are no cell phones here but call outs are allowed every night, which luxury most treatment places don't have. Visiting is every Saturday, which again is rare for a treatment center to have. Most centers allow one visit every month or two. While I absolutely loved Paradigm and met some of the most genuinely kind people there I've ever met, the amount/level of treatment personally wasn't enough for me. I really changed and improved when I went to a more intense program.

Review from Rehabs.com

I attended paradigm Malibu in Early January of 2018 for addiction problems and depression and was released less than 30 days later. I strongly advise anyone not to pay for this rehab, for it is way too expensive for what it really is. You are paying for really nice housing, 10/10 food 3 times a day with snacks at your disposal, 24/7 support and counseling from “professionals” (they are all runt of the litter type professionals not actual renowned therapists with private practices). You are also paying for liability costs of shipping your child off for 30 days which involves activities all over Malibu. This bill will screw you honestly, I attended out-patient rehab and learned 10 times more skills than I did at paradigm. Also, every person I know who went there relapsed. They also try to rope your family into making you buy an extra 15 days: in the final days of your initial stay (30 days) you get assessed and every time (no matter who the kid is or what problems he or she has) the primary therapist for that kid will STRONGLY AND PERSUASIVELY try to convince them that their child absolutely needs this extra 15 days by instilling fear that they will relapse if they are sent home too early. Every kid who stays the extra 15 days relapses anyways, you have to pay an extra $15,000 or something for the extra 15 days, I’m convinced it’s a whole scheme. When I have trouble with depression or addiction I think back to the things my out patient therapist have said to me and I feel better and recall tricks to help me out. I sometimes try to think of instances at paradigm in these times, and I can never think of anything. Seriously nothing I learned from paradigm has stuck with me. A bubble is a good way to describe it because living in that environment is not real life. You are thrown into a pool of people with all types of issues and problems and live together, most kids there are NOT AT ALL willing to be there, so everyone seems to “team up” on the staff and do what ever they can do to feel thrill and have fun in rehab. This is where you really learn, you learn how be deviant and sneaky, you learn what you really crave and it makes you fiend for it even more when you are back home. I would describe it as a psychotic vacation in Malibu California with really good food and housing but absolutely horrible vibes and chaos left and right.

Review from Rehabs.com

Paradigm Malibu was easily one of the worst decisions i’ve made in my life. i went in the fall of 2015. At the time, i was struggling with intense suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self injury, and an eating disorder. i stayed about 43 days. i thought i was cured. 2 months after coming home, i attempted suicide. we decided to send me back to paradigm, only to have the same result. Paradigm doesn’t teach you how to live in real life when you have mental health issues. the coddle you and send you back home with no warning. being at Paradigm, you’re pretty much on a vacation with some friends and a few strict adults. i ended up doh g a different type of treatment after Paradigm, and i’m over a year clean (which i never was before or directly after, or DURING my stay). Not everything was bad- food was great, experienced were amazing, the amount of care and love from everyone is incredible. all of my therapists were incredible and i will forever be grateful to have met everyone i did there. but if you or your child is concidering Paradigm, remember that many people go back twice, and it’s 50k for 3 months of vacation.

We love hearing about your treatment experience
