Ranked #6 in Maryland on Newsweek’s 2024 list of America’s Best Addiction Centers, RCA at Capital Region delivers clinically proven care with signature compassion. They treat substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions through a full continuum of services, including medically monitored detox, residential, and day treatment and intensive outpatient programs (in-person or virtual). They also offer their Thrive program, providing specialized support for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Navigate Recovery with 6 Guiding Principles

RCA applies six core tenets they’ve determined essential for every client to achieve sustained recovery. These include medications to reduce cravings and prevent relapse, daily 12-step meetings for peer support, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills training to manage emotions and cope with challenges. Clients also benefit from family involvement, strong alumni connections after discharge, and care that’s guided by real-time progress tracking to adapt and improve treatment along the way.

Recharge in a Restorative Setting

Just outside the Capital Beltway with direct access to Virginia and D.C., RCA’s Capital Region campus offers clients a modern, peaceful space to focus on recovery. Semi-private rooms provide comfort and quiet, while outdoor gazebos, picnic tables, and lawn games encourage connection. Clients can take advantage of the on-site gym and rec center, creating a balanced environment that blends rest, movement, and meaningful community during treatment.

Stay Supported with a Thriving Alumni Network

RCA’s alumni association helps clients stay supported and inspired long after treatment ends. They offer ongoing recovery meetings and sober events like movies, sports, and picnics to bring alumni together for fun, fellowship, and connection. Many events allow alumni to invite family and friends, so their support system can play an active role in recovery.

Everyone's recovery journey is unique. Whether it looks like residential rehab for 30 days, an outpatient program, or virtual therapy, you can find a level of care that fits your needs.
Detox
Typically the initial stage of treatment for substance use, focusing on medically supervised management of withdrawal symptoms.
Residential Rehab
Offering intensive care with 24/7 monitoring, residential substance use treatment is typically 30 days. Length can range from 14 to 90 days.
Sober Living
Not Offered at This Center
Transitional housing designed to support individuals recovering from substance use disorders offering a safe, supportive and structured environment for practicing long-term sobriety, while reintegrating back into daily living.
Day Treatment
In a PHP, patients live at home but follow an intensive schedule of treatment. Most programs require you to be on-site for about 40 hours per week.
Intensive Outpatient Program
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) falls between inpatient care and traditional outpatient services, with therapy and skills-building activities designed to support recovery and provide flexibility. IOP is ideal for those needing support but not the 24/7 care of a residential facility.
Outpatient
Outpatient treatment offers flexible therapeutic and medical care without the need to stay overnight in a hospital or inpatient facility. Outpatient care typically offers a range of therapies and medical interventions individuals can attend alongside daily life.
Virtual & In-Home Care
Not Offered at This Center
The delivery of therapeutic services utilizing technology such as video conferencing, online messaging or phone calls, allowing for flexibility, comfort and increased access to care.
Co-Occurring Mental Health
Treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders, which affect the majority of individuals diagnosed, integrates care for mental health conditions with primary substance use. Personalized care plans are crafted to effectively address each condition simultaneously, optimizing the healing process.

Review from Rehabs.com

After intake ( which was long and arduous, not to mention humiliating. Felt like I was entering gen pop in prison) I was just put in a room. After a few hours, I met with dr. Gall( zero bedside manner and the lack of empathy was staggering). I explained to him thatI have a problem breathing through my nose and that I needed medicine( which I brought, but because it was opened already they confiscated it). He said they would get me new medicine. I waited 14 hrs before I had to leave because I got no medicine. They could have walked to the CVS on the corner and got what I needed and been back in 15 minutes. This all could have been avoided with more information about what you can and can not bring. Also, over night when I was TRYING to rest, a staff member came into my room every half hour. Could never sleep at all. Bottom line is they were so concerned about everything else instead of focusing on what I needed to be able to stay and be successful. Hell, they didn’t care at all. They already got my money. So concerned about protocols and no concern for my situation. I get that people will try anything to get drugs even at a rehab facility. I also know that many people who are there, are there due to court order and to avoid jail. I was there on my own dime and own accord to try and get better. However, they treated me like I was a prisoner. All they had to do was go get me new medicine and everything would have been fine. But they were more concerned about protocols and policies then taking the time to actually HEAR me and work with me to address my problem so that I could have had a successful recovery. Overall, a very unpleasant experience at this facility

Everyone that Ive interacted with have been extremely professional and understanding of our situation and more importantly, the range of emotions we were experiencing as a family. Every time I called to check on the status of my loved one, I felt like they genuinely cared about my loved one, as well as, my general well-being.
