Review from Rehabs.com

Going to Awakenings was different for me from other rehabs I’ve gone to because I actually liked it there. The whole atmosphere at Awakenings was warm and inviting. When I first got there the staff made me feel comfortable and safe which for me meant that I could completely concentrate on my recovery. I was surprised by how easy and smooth detox was for me there. It’s never easy or fun to detox off something and yet going through the detox at Awakenings was so much smoother than I was used to. The medical personnel and detox staff were awesome. They seemed to know just when I needed someone to talk to, when I needed a distraction and when I just wanted to be left alone for a bit. They are really knowledgeable about drugs and their effect on the body and they knew a bunch of things that helped me get through my detox easier. There’s not one single recovery program that works for everyone. Every person is different and that means that you can’t treat each person’s addiction the same. Which is why they have different programs that you can do at Awakenings. When I got out of detox I worked with my counselor who helped me figure the program that would work best for me. There’s also enough groups and classes during the day that you’re kept busy but it’s not too much either. They also have classes like music and art therapy which were my favorite. Both those classes in helping me deal with negative emotions and learning how to use both music and art when I left to deal with those emotions and prevent myself from relapsing that way. Another thing about Awakenings is that the facility isn’t just about getting you off drugs. They work hard to make sure that you are healthy as well. I didn’t realize how much staying healthy helped with staying sober. One of the reasons I started using in the first place was because drugs made me feel good. Now, I feel good without them and so I don’t feel the need to use them as much. While I was at Awakenings I learned the kinds of foods I should be eating and why certain food made me feel worse than others and the effects those foods had on my body. Awakenings is also the only the rehab I’ve been to where when I graduated I wasn’t overweight. I did gain weight there but it was weight that I needed to gain and with their emphasis on making sure were all healthy I was exercising throughout my program and so when I graduated from Awakenings I was healthy in both body and mind. The staff at Awakenings are one thing that make this facility so great. From the moment I got there they made me feel like I finally had someone on my side who completely understood what I was going through and just wanted to help me get better. I’ve always had one or the other. The addicts I knew, they understood what I was dealing with and how hard it was to get sober but, they weren’t supportive or anything. My family however is very supportive but, they don’t understood what I’ve been dealing with or how I’ve been trying to get sober. The staff at Awakenings were both, they knew what I was dealing with, they were supportive and they were willing and able to help me. The staff at Awakenings also care, I mean really care about the people that come to Awakenings for help and their dedication to helping us was pretty amazing to experience. They made sure that when I graduated from my program I felt confident in my own ability to keep myself sober. I’ve also stayed in touch with my aftercare specialist and that’s also helped me a lot. Just having someone to talk to if I’m having trouble has been huge. It’s another one of the reasons I’ve been able to stay sober. Going through my program at Awakenings was a great experience. I’d recommend this facility to anyone and everyone who needs help with getting sober. I know that as long as I continue applying what I learned there that I’ll be able to stay sober for the rest of my life.

Review from Rehabs.com

6 months ago, I went to Awakenings and it’s the best rehab program I’ve been to. Before I went to Awakenings I was addicted to pain medication and had been using for 7 years. In that time I’d been to 5 rehabs and none of them were able to help me stay clean. After each of those programs I relapsed, usually within 2 weeks. One time I stayed clean for 3 weeks and 3 days that but that it. Since going to Awakenings I’ve stayed clean. I spent 3 months at Awakenings but, these last 3 months I’ve been home have also been completely drug and alcohol free. There’s a big difference in how I felt after completing my program at Awakenings than I did after the other programs I’ve done. When I finished my program at Awakenings I actually felt ready to live my life, without drugs and for the first time I felt confident that it was something I could really do. After finishing those other programs I was scared when I got home. Leaving my house for any reason was always a gamble because I wanted to get high so desperately that even if I just went down the street to buy cigarettes there was a good chance I’d take a detour on the way home and get some pills. When I got home after finishing my Awakenings program I started living my life again. I could go out to lunch with my dad or go to the store to buy cigarettes and I wasn’t worried that I’d take that detour home and relapse. One of the reasons Awakenings worked so well for me is that the program at Awakenings isn’t the same for everyone. They understand that taking the exact same approach with every single person is never going to work. So, they have different programs there and the counselors worked with me to help me find the program that was the best fit for me. Another thing that really helped me at Awakenings was that the staff cultivated an upbeat atmosphere. It helped me a lot that when I went to groups I wasn’t just sitting around with a bunch of people depressed by their situations. Instead, you had a group of people who were all working hard to make their lives better. While I was at Awakenings, there was a lot of self-discovery. Mainly, I figured out how I wanted to live my life and I figured out that I am a much happier and nicer person when I was sober and had been sober for a while. It also wasn’t just about dealing with my addiction when I was there. I’d messed up so many different aspects of my life while I was using and so, while I was on my program those things were either dealt with or with the things that couldn’t just be fixed a plan of action was created and put in place. Things like earning back the trust of my family. I’ve only been home for 3 months but, I’m continuing to work things out with my family and it is looking better. More and more, they trust me to know when I can’t handle something and to ask for help. They’re starting to trust that when I call to talk to them I’m not just trying to manipulate them and get something from them. It really is great just to be able to talk to my dad or my sister and have a conversation with them. I’ve come a really long way in the last 6 months. Without going to Awakenings I’d probably still be using. Going through the program at Awakenings has really changed my life so much.

Review from Rehabs.com

When I went to Awakenings it was because I needed help with an addiction to pain pills and Suboxone. The Suboxone I started to get off the pain pills but I was using one or the other and couldn’t get off. When I went to Awakenings I got the exact right kind of help I needed and I’ve able to stay sober since coming home after finishing my program. When I started using it was because I wanted to try it, wanted to see what it was like. Such a stupid and costly mistake. When I realized that I’d become dependent on pills I went to my parents for help. I didn’t want to go to rehab because I was afraid that I’d go there and end up with a bigger habit or something. I’d read some stories of that happening to people, or they’d go to rehab for weed and when they left they’d start using meth or something. Because of that fear my parents and I decided on me going to a doctor and getting on Suboxone. Which did help. It got me off the pills. Only then, I couldn’t get off the Suboxone. I was weaned down on the Suboxone till I was taking only a little bit, then I stop taking it and as soon as the withdrawal started, I’d start looking for something to stop it. Whether that was pills or Suboxone I didn’t care. After a year of that my parents decided I needed rehab. I went though I didn’t completely agree. I knew I needed some help and thought that if I could get everything out of my system, then I wouldn’t needed help staying that way. I did do the program, just not as well as I could have. I wasn’t as sincere as I should’ve been, didn’t try as hard as I could’ve. I made it 3 months after coming home before I relapsed. I went back on Suboxone, back to that cycle until my parents found Awakenings and sent me there. It’s a great place for so many reasons. There 2 that were most important to me though was the program itself and the staff there. The program isn’t just one program that everyone does. They have different options there and I found a program that worked best for me. The staff, as soon as I got there they made sure I felt welcome and that I was comfortable. Through my withdrawal they made sure I was as comfortable as possible and continued to be there through my whole program, helping me whenever I needed it. Because of all that I’ve stayed sober since I finished my program and came home. I feel so much better now. I know what to do and how to handle that comes my way and by using what I learned at Awakenings, I know that no matter what I’ll be able to stay sober.

Review from Rehabs.com

My brother did really good at Awakenings. This program seemed to mesh well with him and his needs. One thing about this program that worked so well for him was that it's a mostly holistic program. He was diagnosed with depression when he was 16 and has been on medication since then. At Awakenings they didn't try to take him off his meds, didn't tell him that he didn't need it. They also didn't prescribe any additional medication there. They don't do that. You stay what you're on when you get there and that's it. That along with the staff, the treatment program he did and everything else, he had a great experience there. The staff were easy to get along with and easy to work with. The other clients helped my brother a lot as well. They helped him fit in when he first got there and made him comfortable there. My brother had a easy time staying through his program because he liked it there. He learned a lot about himself and how best to keep himself sober. They didn't take him off his medication but, they also didn't try to prescribe anything while he was there. All that combined just worked for him and made Awakenings a wonderful rehab that he benefited greatly from going to. I never tried it but heard the food could be better. Could use more staff members too but, the staff they have are amazing.

Going to Awakenings helped my son so much. They treated him great there. It wasn't just about getting my son off heroin. He's always had problems in his life because of how shy he is. During his program the staff there helped him learn better how to deal with people he didn't know. So, going to Awakenings got him off heroin but they've made his life so much easier because of everything else they did for him.
