This place is nothing less than a glorified jail! You are told how to fold your clothes, socks, etc.. You are only aloud 5 minute showers! Had to beg to call your parent! When our parent was paying them!

Daytop and Connecticut Renaissance saved my life back in the 1970s. Yes the program was tough. Yes at times I felt alone, but I learned to take responsibility for my choices, which most people have trouble doing, as noted in other comments.

There is no supervision over the teenagers. The staff does not watch the children, they are left alone. My loved one went in to get better and has gotten worse from being here.

Daytop is a great program that saved my life. Without Daytop, I would not have realized how bad my addiction was and I would not have learned the coping skills to manage it. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. Some of the kids who are there do not want to be there so they can make it hard to focus on what you need to do but if you do then Daytop can help you

Review from Rehabs.com

As a long time Daytop parent volunteer, I have seen many changes in the Daytop program. They are always looking for ways to improve their program and to stay current with the most effective treatment models. When my daughter attended the program my life and my family’s lives were in turmoil. Daytop worked with us and got us back on track. Daytop often says that addiction is a family problem and it takes a family to address it. Daytop has an outstanding family support system called the Daytop Family Association. The Association is run by experienced Daytop parent volunteers whose own children have completed the program but continue to get involved because they want to pass along the wisdom and coping tools that had been shared with them when they were in crisis. This is primarily done with the parent peer support groups where some parents for the first time realize that they are not alone in their pain. They are surrounded by loving and caring parents who understand the family struggles. Parents learn to change and learn how to set limits and boundaries with their children. For most, the meetings provide a life vest in their sea of chaos. I can honestly say that the staff truly care about the adolescents in the program and this intangible effects the outcomes. Daytop is not a Malibu rehab. For those looking for that, they can spend $40,000 a month but they still wouldn’t get the family support that Daytop offers. In the end it doesn’t matter how much you spend, its about the family making changes and creating open and honest communication and enforcing the consequences for negative behaviors. Daytop has change my life and the lives of my family members and for that I will be forever grateful.
