Walter Hoving Home New York is a faith-based substance abuse treatment center for chemically dependent women pursuing long-term recovery through the word of Christ. During the 12-month residential program, individuals will progress through four stages, each of which provides clients with new privileges and responsibilities such as resident training and staff assistance. At Walter Hoving Home, residents are given the opportunity to apply for a driver’s license, attend vocational, G.E.D., and computer classes, and prepare for reentry into the community.

I was broken and desperate with no hope or place to go. I had been addicted for over 20 years. I entered in 2017 and have been successful ever since. I have a full time job, and sobriety but most importantly I have Jesus! He transformed my life!

I went there back in 1973 when it was called Teen Challenge. It was a 12 month program and it was free. It was in upper state New York near Poughkeepsie, we stayed in this beautiful mansion. During the day we had Bible study after that we were assigned a chore which was keeping the mansion clean. Dinner then another hour of talking about the Bible then we would get ready for bed then had to say a prayer before we got into bed. No TV or Radio was allowed of any kind. The program was all about religion, we weren’t allowed to talk about the things we did on the streets. I could only take three months I had to leave. No kind of training of any kind other then teachings of the Bible. They wanted us girls to live by God‘s law, that definitely wasn’t me. They actually said a wife was suppose to OBEY her husband.

This place has changed my life. I have been to numerous places help and this is the only one that did. They showed me God's love from the moment i stepped on the mountain to this day. It's a family that will always be there. When you complete you get a try God pin and that's because when you tried everything the world had to offer and it failed you, try God because than you will succeed.

I will say this. My feelings about WHH after awhile it seems to act as a cult because they try to cut you off from your family and the outside world. We all need Christ but still the word said we have to live in the world but not of it.
