Sabino Recovery helps clients pursue not just recovery but true transformation. Their luxury inpatient treatment center in the Sonoran Desert provides a truly individualized experience for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions. Shaped by the latest research in neuroscience, they tailor both naturopathic and allopathic medical practices to ensure clients receive comprehensive care. Clients will appreciate not only the serene setting in the Catalina foothills, but also the enriching activities that invigorate the mind, body, and spirit.

Evidence-Based, Trauma-Informed Care

Sabino Recovery employs an evidence-based treatment model focused on trauma-informed care. It aims to fully address trauma as a way to diminish symptoms, reduce shame, and increase empathy and safety. Their programming is individualized at the highest level: each treatment regimen is based on the entire person, not just the diagnosis. Upon admission, an in-depth assessment provides staff with the client’s unique history and circumstances. Clients have lab work and non-invasive exams done to better inform clinical decisions, and the team takes into account clients’ day-to-day circumstances to guide each daily treatment plan. Every therapeutic modality used is informed by neuroscience, from evidence-based methods like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and neurofeedback, to integrative therapies such as massage, art therapy, outdoor adventure, and yoga. The Sabino Recovery team consists of naturopathic and allopathic professionals, including psychiatrists and psychologists. Members of the neurofeedback and sleep study programs in particular are thought leaders in their fields. Every staff member has been carefully selected, not only for their experience and skill, but also for possessing a great deal of empathy and compassion.

Intensive 1-on-1, Group, and Family Sessions

Because each person’s history is so distinctive, Sabino Recovery offers 50 one-on-one sessions in just 35 days. This allows their multidisciplinary team to work with each resident on their specific issues, and address the root cause of their struggles and not just the symptoms. Their group sessions have no more than 8 participants, ensuring each person is able to give feedback and be heard. Near the end of a client’s program, family members are invited to participate in the family program. This 3.5-day program is designed to reconnect clients with the people most important to their recovery. Through guided exercises, families gain insights into their dynamics and learn to communicate effectively.

Continuing Care and Aftercare

During treatment, clients meet weekly with the Continuing Care Coordinator for interactive and educational sessions about the importance of ongoing care. Clients create a sustainable, recovery-focused, self-care plan with healthy habits and support networks. Sabino Recovery’s well-designed aftercare program may include medication management, individual therapy, and partial hospitalization or outpatient treatment to reduce the risk of relapse. Their free lifelong alumni program provides individualized follow-up, structured group weekly Zoom calls, and alumni reunions.

Peaceful Setting with Upscale Amenities

Set against the serene backdrop of Sabino Canyon in Tucson, Sabino Recovery’s campus-style environment at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains maintains an intimate feel. They offer private suites and shared rooms, gourmet meals crafted by an in-house chef, and a fully equipped gym. Clients enjoy peaceful labyrinth walks, acupuncture, cupping, sauna retreats and cold-water plunges. The grounds also include a bookstore, relaxing courtyard, swimming pool, ropes course, basketball and pickleball courts, and a music recording studio. Cell phone and laptop usage are monitored and only available during specific hours.

The Neurofeedback Advantage
The Neurofeedback Advantage
At Sabino Recovery, neurofeedback is incorporated into their mental health programs, allowing clients to better identify, understand, and alter their brainwave patterns. By addressing the root of mental health challenges—the imbalanced brain—this technique can lead to lasting recovery and improved overall mental well-being. Neurofeedback treatment (or EEG biofeedback treatment) is a non-invasive method to help patients regulate brain activity in real time by monitoring brain waves and offering feedback. While neurofeedback can be a standalone treatment for certain conditions, Sabino Recovery finds it most effective when combined with other therapeutic approaches tailored to each client.
A High Value for Sleep
A High Value for Sleep
To leave no stone unturned, every Sabino Recovery client fills out a sleep history questionnaire to help staff learn more about their sleep patterns, how they sleep, what helps them sleep, and more. After settling in at Sabino for a few days, they will then discuss the WatchPat Sleep Screening Study. This gold-standard sleep study—which uses a computer worn on the client’s wrist, with sensors attached to one finger and the breast bone—helps determine any obvious sleep issues to address. Sleep, an often-overlooked component, profoundly influences our mental wellbeing, healing processes, and overall quality of life.
Trauma-Specific Treatment
Trauma-Specific Treatment
Sabino Recovery’s comprehensive inpatient trauma treatment is centered around personalized care for each individual and uses the neuroaffective relational model (NARM). By integrating both naturopathic and allopathic medicine, evidence-based therapies, and dual diagnosis treatment, clients get the care they need to heal from their trauma and any co-occurring addiction or mental health issues. Sabino Recovery treats a variety of types of trauma: acute, chronic, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, psychological, secondary, disinhibited social engagement disorder, adjustment disorders, reactive attachment disorders, and unspecified trauma-related disorders. No matter the kind of trauma, they aim to alleviate its impact on clients’ emotional and physical well-being.
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Sabino Recovery clients can participate in group or individual horse therapy sessions and work closely with a Master’s-level and EAGALA-certified equine therapist. This trauma-centered approach to equine therapy includes both traditional groundwork and horseback riding, focusing on both bodywork and emotion regulation as clients engage with these giant, peaceful animals. Equine therapy has proven effective for emotional, behavioral, and cognitive challenges, since these activities can promote a path for self-discovery in ways that may not be experienced in traditional talk therapy. Benefits can include increased self-esteem, enhanced problem-solving skills, overcoming fears, improved impulse control, and much more.

I was At Sabino in 2021. Best 35 days I’ve ever given myself. Entered treatment pretty broken. Coming up on 4 years and still going strong thanks to the solid foundation, self-awareness and healing environment that Sabino provided. Forever grateful!

Worst experience of my life, the place is not what is pictured at all. They are all about money and do not care about your metal health. I had a brain injury from a concussion that lead to panic disorder. They told me they were well equipped to help me. That was false. They took my 65k and I was only there for 3 days. They refused to give me my money back. It’s looks like a prison and don’t even had a licensed psychiatrist on staff. All false what they offer.

I went to Sabino for treatment of PTSD which had manifested as daily migraine headaches. I did not go for addiction. The trauma recovery program is amazing and was effective in treating my headaches. It is the first time that I truly felt that I was understood. The staff evaluated my issues and individualized my treatment. I have never met a more caring and empathetic group of professionals. They truly care for their patients and advocate for their wellness. I am migraine free for the first time in four years! Thank you Sabino.

Review from Rehabs.com

I have been to several treatment centers on my journey. Finding Sabino Recovery has been life changing for me. The incredibly caring and thoughtful staff has created a space for genuine healing to take place. For the first time I was able to comfortably open up about my past and the experiences that had been imprisoning me for far too long. I gained the tools to handle every situation I was faced with and it was finally something other than acting out with drugs, alcohol, and other poor decisions. The difference was that the staff at Sabino took the time to learn about my unique situation and created a treatment program just for me. My stay was filled with tons of individual treatment such as EMDR, Somatic Experience Therapy, esotherapy (Amazing!), acupuncture, and massage. Everything is done with intention and focused on healing the deepest parts of your soul. In addition, the setting provides fantastic scenery and outdoor adventures. The rooms are spacious, recently renovated, and very comfortable. They even do their best to give you a private room! To top the whole thing off, Chef Tommy and his staff prepare every meal from scratch and are willing to go above and beyond to accommodate everyone's dietary needs. The food is a definite highlight!
