I was apprehensive of completing a rehab treatment. But I can honestly say it has been life changing, I didn’t realize how much I needed to be out of my environment to focus solely on my mental health, addiction and well being effected my recovery and growth. I was impressed by the environment, amenities and activities offered. Blown away by the food, available staff and their endless care to meet my needs. I have never had such a compassionate therapist (Gurman), relatable, caring consoler (Shannon) and been so comfortable being able to be open. Solely being surrounded by with mind-like individuals with such different backgrounds. I am beyond grateful of the type of care the psychiatrist offered me. Patient, attentive, understanding and brilliant. This treatment centre not only addressed my primary concerns that brought me there but provided me with understanding and tools that made me feel prepared for what this crazy world may throw at me. I can’t say thank you guys enough for helping me be able to breath again and look forward to living and feeling prepared.

Sadly, not at all what it seems. I was very clear that my main issue was mental health and not heavy addiction. After a traumatic devastating loss I was at rock bottom and needed the therapy and round the clock support to re-asses my meds, get physically and mentally healthy again. I looked at places all over north America. I loved the 1:1 therapy SAMH offered. Sadly, once there, I was denied my medication on multiple days (against docs orders), the therapy was nothing more than work sheets and instead of being supported during moments of distress, I was left alone or told it was my own fault and left to manage alone. Ultimately I had no choice but to leave because it became clear I was not able to get the safe support I needed. In the end I realize this place is fine if you need a safe place to keep away from drug abuse but if you're looking for any type of meaningful mental health support... find another place. Not worth ur money. I left more lost and broken than I arrived. I'm honestly very disappointed I wasn't able to fulfill the goals I had set for myself. Subsequently, I've been able to find better support for myself and continue to do the healing necessary for me to live a full life. I am dedicated to my own recovery and refuse to let this place derail me.

My experience at SAMH was extremely positive. The management, counselors, therapists, nurses, chefs and maintenance team were excellent. I have learned so much about my illness, tools to help cope with future difficulties, regained my self esteem, and I feel healthier than I have in many years. The program and services are designed to help achieve results if the client is willing to put in the work and are serious about their recovery.
