The Ohio Mental Health Center at The Trails offers specialized programs for anxiety, bipolar, depression, trauma, and other conditions, ensuring clients have a full grasp on their mental health when they leave care. Unlike a traditional psychiatric hospital offering crisis-focused, short stays in a hospital-like environment, The Trails applies a long-term, person-centered treatment model with stays of at least 30 days in a setting that looks and feels like home.

Build a Toolset for Lasting Life Change

The Trails works with clients to address all physical, psychological, and social components of chronic conditions to foster true healing and break the cycle of relapse. Their team of doctors and clinicians begins by performing social, psychological, and physical assessments to develop a treatment plan unique to each client’s situation. They combine medications, psychotherapy, life-skills training, and holistic therapies to build upon the client’s strengths and help them learn new coping skills to overcome their challenges. Case management and a custom aftercare plan also prepare clients for success when they return to “everyday life.”

Unwind in a Place That Feels Like Home

Set on over 20 acres about 40 miles east of Columbus, The Trails serves up to 18 clients at a time in a former estate thoughtfully retrofitted for comfort. Clients enjoy private or shared rooms with cozy beds, luxury bathrooms, a modern kitchen, and meals that are either catered or cooked onsite. Relaxing spaces like a covered porch and deck overlooking a pond, plus fitness equipment and hiking trails, enhance the retreat-like setting. Free transportation makes admission easy and stress-free. Visitation is offered every Sunday.

Heal Through Movement, Creativity, and Nature
Heal Through Movement, Creativity, and Nature
At The Trails, treatment extends beyond talk therapy. They offer holistic methods proven effective when combined with traditional care: movement, creativity, and time in nature. Clients engage in art therapy, meditation, breathwork, yoga, nature-informed therapy, and adventure therapy. They also enjoy activities and off-residence excursions that make the experience memorable, meaningful, and even fun.
Move Beyond Managing Symptoms
Move Beyond Managing Symptoms
Rather than treating symptoms alone, The Trails treats the underlying causes of mental illness, addresses untreated trauma, and manages medications over a longer period of time to ensure true stabilization. This deeper approach gives clients the chance to heal at the source, break patterns of relapse, and build a stronger foundation for long-term mental wellness.
Discover Which Medication Truly Helps
Discover Which Medication Truly Helps
At The Trails, clients can explore medications in a safe, professionally monitored setting. Because responses vary—even among clients with the same diagnosis—and results may take weeks to appear, 30-day and longer stays allow time to adjust, reevaluate, and persist. This supportive environment helps clients discover what works instead of giving up too soon.
Choose a Retreat-Like Experience
Choose a Retreat-Like Experience
The Trails’ program and setting feel like a retreat for mental health, not a psychiatric hospital. Clients aren’t confined or restricted; they engage in leisure, fitness, and meaningful activities. The peaceful location, combined with holistic care and enriching experiences, creates an atmosphere that supports healing with dignity, balance, and a sense of renewal.
