Tree House Recovery in Costa Mesa treats adults struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction. They employ their mind-body method to create a holistic program that was created by founder Justin McMillen. The goal is to “take the struggle of getting sober and use it to bond people together. In that struggle, there emerges a camaraderie made of trust, vulnerability, success, and support that feels like home.” Their 8 treatment modalities include ABI Therapy, ESM Fitness, Yoga Therapy, Recovery in Action, Writing Therapy, Addiction Education, Process Group, and 1-on-1 Therapy.

Fitness Therapy

Tree House Recovery emphasizes physical fitness, as well as an adventurous spirit, in their program, which is why they include many activities. Previously mentioned, they have action-based induction (ABI) therapy, which incorporates various team-based drills adapted from Navy SEAL training exercises, specialized ESM fitness tailored for recovery created by Ryan Bain, yoga, and Recovery in Action, which is monthly events like Spartan Races and Tough Mudders to connect clients with the world around them. Their physical empowerment team accompanies and directs all these activities.

Additional Men's Support with Day Treatment and Lodging

In addition to the IOP program that Tree House offers for everyone, they have a more intensive day (PHP) treatment for men and nearby lodging. This program includes a more highly structured approach to recovery with additional community-building opportunities. Clients tend to do 4 individual sessions per week and participate in 8 therapeutic modalities total.

Tree House saved my life. Treatment at THR is not easy but that's exactly what I needed. Life isn't easy. If you go to one of the many cushy treatment centers you're basically going to a resort -- most alcoholic/addicts lives don't involve the option to get a massage everyday for free. That's not real life, and that experience wasn't going to help me. At Tree House you hit the ground running required to attend all modalities no matter what. Just like in real life, you can't always take a 'sick day’. You are challenged physically on the beach and physically in the gym. You are challenged mentally, you are required to learn all about how addiction works both biologically and psychologically so you understand what is going on with you. Your therapists do not coddle you, they say it like it is, good or bad. The therapists will push you mentally, they will help you resolve all your past traumas and correct inherently illogical belief systems Tree House provides you with gift cards for a grocery store. You will be required to live on a budget, purchase and cook your own food, and just like in real life you will not be able to go out for every meal or have each meal prepared for you. You will live in close proximity to other clients — which will challenge you to continue growing. Treatment should not be about “getting sober”, that’s easy. It’s about learning to LIVE sober and truly LOVE life sober that requires the structure that Tree House provides. All of the challenges you face will turn your life around. All the fun you will have and the true friends you will make will lead you to the life you always deserved.

Strengths: -Team building -One-on-one care -Loving staff -Physical aspects -Wide variety of modalities -Length of treatment -Amazing people (staff and clients) -Awesome community events that we participate in -Location(5 minutes from the beach) -Staff that is also in recovery Weaknesses: -Because it is men's only, women don't have access to this amazing program -Because of the facilities policy on medication, many people with serious dual-diagnoses, (bi-polar 2, schizophrenia) can't come here Tree House provided me with the perfect recipe for healthy, happy living. This includes all the tools I need to remain sober as well as great things for me to do on a daily basis to achieve health and happiness. I took the same drive I had towards acquiring my drug of choice and have applied it to bettering my life. I work-out, eat healthy, take direction, and develop lasting loving relationships with other guys in the program. Tree House taught me how to love myself so I can spread that same love out into the world.

Strengths: Teamwork. Building self supporting men. Physical activity. Holistic approach to sobriety. Weaknesses: Can be hard for some types of people. Treehouse saved my life. It is a place that helped me regain my center and become a better man. I owe the staff and my fellow iop members a great deal for being supportive and helping push me to get my life back together. I would recommend any man that has drug or alcohol problems to give this program an honest chance it will change your outlook on life.

Incredible staff who are knowledgeable and deeply devoted to the work they do. The treatment incudes holistic options such a yoga and meditation, physical exercise, 12 step meetings, addiction education and team building exercises. The length of treatment usually lasts between 4-6 months which helps created a stronger base of sobriety. Housing could be better maintained. Before coming to Tree House Recovery I had been through 12 previous treatment centers of varies types and lengths of stay without ever being able to achieve any real sobriety time. THR was the exact mix of holistic and physical activity, individual therapy, addiction education and 12 step ideology that I needed. I was not babied or pampered like I experienced at some other rehab facilities but instead was encouraged to make the changes within myself.

Drug addiction education, health and fitness, One on one therapy, team building, relapse prevention tools, after care planning and encouragement and support. Treehouse gave me my life back. The treatment team showed me a new way of living and how to be a productive member society. They help me understand my addiction. By watching everyone that had previously gone through the program and what they were doing with their lives it gave me hope and inspiration. They devised a treatment plan that was for me. When I left treatment I was prepared. I owe my new life treehouse! without them I wouldn't of been able to see or fulfill my potential.
