Provider's Policy

Coverage for psychiatric services varies depending on the benefits provided by your insurance policy.

South County Psychiatry offers a virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for residents of Rhode Island and neighboring communities struggling with mental health concerns, allowing them to receive treatment from the comfort of their own homes. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach, combining individual therapy, medication management, and group therapy.

Treatment Methods

Psychologists meet individually with clients multiple times each week, offering third-wave behavioral therapies like acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Clients also meet regularly with psychiatrists, who collaborate with existing care providers to manage and prescribe medication. Clients engage in 2 types of group therapy, one which teaches coping skills and another which helps clients practice those skills. South County Psychiatry works with clients and their providers to help ensure they continue to receive treatment after discharge.

Program Details

Before beginning the program, clients must have a referral, preferably from another provider, but may also self-refer. Clients engage in a 2-3 hour assessment the day before starting treatment, which helps providers create an individual treatment plan. The IOP meets Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, with two group sessions as well as individual sessions daily. Most clients participate in the program for 3-6 weeks, with the goal of lessening symptoms and helping clients return to daily routines.
